Sunlight causes wrinkles, among other kinds of skin damage, but a different kind of light - specifically the red glow from LEDs - may help to smooth them out by altering the interactions between water and elastic proteins in the skin. Andrei Sommer and Dan Zhu of the University of Ulm in Germany have been investigating how water molecules in the skin interact with different substances.
Light therapy is a gentle process by which energy is delivered to the skin via light emitting diodes (LED) and is absorbed by the cells for therapeutic benefits through a process called Photobiomodulation. The near infrared wavelengths penetrate the skin and stimulate different metabolic activities, providing the energy cells need to activate production of ATP (adenosine triphophate), new collagen and elastin and increase circulation; leaving your skin healthier and younger looking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is photo rejuvenation safe?
YES! It has been proven in numerous studies
that Far Red to Near- Infrared(670nm) LED photo rejuvenation does not harm
the human body. The energy delivered is safe for all skin types.
How long
will I have to use 670nm light before I see results?
You should notice
a healthy glow after the first treatment. However, each person responds at
different rates. Factors that influence this include various physical conditions,
age, diet, alcohol consumption, prescription drug usage, smoking, exercise,
etc.
How do 670nm lights for home use compare to the photo rejuvenation
light treatments done in spas and salons?
The concept is the same. The
technology is, however, quite different. One photo rejuvenation treatment
in a spa or salon typically costs $50-$200, and it's usually recommended
that you get a series of 5 to 10 treatments several times a year. With many
of the devices being no better than a flashlight, your better off with home-use
photo rejuvenation. You can enjoy unlimited treatments in the convenience
of your own home for less than $1000.
Is 670nm light safe for extremely
sensitive skin?
Yes... there are no known contraindications. If you have
rosacea we would recommend going slow to see how your skin reacts. Some rosacea
clients have seen benefits by limiting treatments to twice per week.
What
is the difference between 670nm and the other light therapy devices?
The
three most important things to know and understand about light therapy: wavelength,
irradiancy and dosimetry. Our device operates at a wavelength of 670nm, 60mW/cm2
irradiancy and a dosimetry of 5 joules/cm2 per 88 second dose. These are
the necessary attributes to achieve a biological result.
Does 670nm light
therapy hurt?
NO! Unlike many other anti-aging treatments, 670nm light
therapy is gentle, painless, safe, noninvasive and nonabrasive. There have
been no reports of adverse reactions.
Is it safe to use 670nm light while
pregnant?
According to FDA regulations, they recommend not using it around
the abdomen. Continued research is necessary. You can use 670nm light safely
on the head, (do not stare into light, wear goggles or close eyelids) neck,
face, arms and legs during pregnancy.
Will 670nm light therapy help with
acne or blemishes?
Although anti-aging photo rejuvenation lights were
not designed specifically to handle acne and blemishes, the light waves stimulate
the skin's natural healing process which helps in the treatment of pimples
and blemishes. 670nm light can assist the skin's recovery after acne. UV
light is necessary to kill the bacteria of acne.
Will 670nm light assist
with hyper-pigmentation (age spots) or scarring?
Possibly, we have seen
reports of hyper-pigmentation and scars fading over time with the use of
light.
Will 670nm light help with dry skin?
YES, using 670nm LED photo rejuvenation
should help normalize your skin.
While doing research on the Web I read
that yellow light is effective for skin rejuvenation. What are the benefits
and results of 670nm light therapy vs. yellow?
The companies promoting
yellow or amber lights have only completed case studies not a clinical trial.
They also use the light in conjunction with a skin care regimen. What's to
say the results weren't from that? If a wavelength is below 650nm, that wavelength
will be absorbed by the melanin of the skin. This does not allow for deep
penetration. Our device has been tested and involved in the most research
and clinical trials regarding LED. 670nm is found to work better for skin
rejuvenation.
Will 670nm light help with thinning hair? Will it help re-grow
hair?
We have read reports of accelerated hair growth and stimulation
of dormant hair follicles with the use of 670nm light. Are these claims true?
We have not seen any scientific papers to show results yet. But the light
does stimulate cellular activity in underperforming cells... so who's to
say it won't?
Can 670nm treatment be used on someone who has been treated
recently with Botox® injections?
We believe the light would cause no harm
to the tissue, however, since it has a regenerative effect it might shorten
the life of the paralyzing effect of Botox, so the person might want to avoid
using the light around the injected areas until the Botox wears off. HOW
TO APPLY NEAR-INFRARED LIGHT
How long do you need to apply the 670nm light
for skin rejuvenation?
Starting at the neck and working your way up and
around the face, give yourself one dose and then move to next area. Repeat
this treatment 3 - 4 times per week for 4 - 6 weeks and then once every other
week to maintain.
Should I wear protective eye goggles when I use 670nm
light on my face?
Research has shown this wavelength to be safe, just
close your eyes.
How far away should I hold 670nm lighting device from
my skin?
The device should be placed directly upon the skin.
I tried
670nm light on my inflammatory arthritis and it reduced the bouts of pain
from a week down to a couple days. I want to share this with family members,
are there special instructions?
The device should be used as needed for
pain, just as you would use aspirin or other pain medication. When treating
a joint area, make sure to irradiate completely around that joint.
I had
a huge bruise on my leg so I tried my 670nm light on it, and it went away
much more quickly than bruises typically do. Does it make sense that the
light works on bruises?
The research we did for NASA showed tremendous
benefits for inflammatory and circulatory conditions. You'll be pleased with
the results!
